About Wonderland Dreams
Wonderland Dreams was an immersive art exhibit by Alexa Meade. Alexa took over a former Best Buy on Fifth Avenue, NYC and transformed the 26,000 sq ft space into a magical 2D/3D painted world, complete with over 30 art installations.
Over 100,000 guests came to see Wonderland Dreams while it was open in 2022 and 2023. Guests to Wonderland Dreams were provided with hand-painted costumes, allowing them to become part of the exhibit. On special occasions, Alexa painted models into living works of art, bringing the exhibit to life.
Wonderland Dreams was one of New York City’s top-rated art exhibits. The exhibit was located at 529 5th Avenue, steps away from Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, Times Square, and The Museum of Modern Art.
From Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills to Fifth Avenue, NYC
Before bringing Wonderland Dreams to NYC, Alexa Meade launched her show concept on Rodeo Drive as a public art commission by the City of Beverly Hills. The first run of exhibit was originally named Immersed in Wonderland and was attended by 40,000 people in 2018.
Next, she scaled up the exhibit to a 14,000 square foot space near Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. With a grand opening date scheduled for March 13, 2020, the doors to the show never opened due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Although some components of the 2020 exhibit were able to be saved, there were some much cherished art installations such as a walk-in kaleidoscope and a human hamster wheel that had to be destroyed because they could not be transported.
The Wonderland Dreams exhibit found its next home in a gorgeous 26,000 square foot former Best Buy on Fifth Avenue. It quickly became one of NYC’s top rated art exhibits and was attended by over 100,000 people from 2022 to 2023.
Launching the Exhibit on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills
“We are excited to once again welcome Alexa Meade to Beverly Hills with the launch of her first solo exhibition on the West Coast,” said Mayor of Beverly Hills, Dr. Julian Gold. “We are proud to showcase her incredible work.”
The 2020 New York City Exhibit Never Opened
“Immersed in Wonderland will be open near Penn Station from March 13.
Meade's work, which is stunningly multi-colored and almost hallucinatory, completely covers the walls and floors inside the exhibit, allowing you to literally step inside her painting and even don a painted costume to become a living piece of two-dimensional art.”
